Week 7: FUN WAYS TO TEACH AND LEARN M&D

FUN WAYS TO TEACH AND LEARN MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION

For week 7, I decided to find ways of teaching multiplication and division in a fun and exciting way for students. This can be added to any lesson that is aligned to the CCSS for third-grade elementary school.  As we all know,  learning multiplication and division is a necessary part of life.  Basically, multiplication is repeated addition and division is the backward form of multiplication. For some students, especially third-grade elementary students being introduced to multiplication and division can be very overwhelming and nerve-wracking for some.  It is my job as a future educator to show them that learning multiplication and division is fun and easy.  In addition, there are many different ways to teach and learn the procedure and concepts of both.

I came across a very interesting website while researching fun ways to incorporate teaching M&D in lessons.  Here is the website.  https://www.weareteachers.com/teaching-division-games-activities/

Here is a list of the activities I found most engaging:
  1. The Herding Game
  2. Sharing Cookies
  3. Pizza Division Booklet
  4. Create a Divison House
  5. Play a round of I Have...Who Has?
  6. Playdough mates
  7. Use multiplication to teach division
  8. Use money to solve division problems

Reflection: I felt that this website was very useful in finding creates and engaging ways to make learning multiplication and division fun for students.  A majority of the activities I chose are for all types of learners. It was important for me to chose games that recalled previous knowledge, so I can observe and get a better understanding of what my students know or will need to be taught.  Also, a large portion of my choices incorporates real-life activities that students will be able to use throughout their lifetime.
